Running with the squirrels

Once upon a time in Bamboo Hollow, there lived a panda named Percy. Percy was a bit different from the other animals in the forest. He wore mismatched socks on his ears (just for fun), sang silly songs way too loudly, and liked to nap upside down in trees. The other animals didn’t understand Percy’s quirks, so they avoided him, and some even tried to annoy him.

“Hey Percy,” giggled a squirrel, tossing a pebble.
“Nice socks! Are they for your ears or your paws?” snorted a porcupine.
Even the butterflies fluttered just out of his reach when he waved hello.

Percy didn’t mind too much. He just smiled, hummed a tune about jellybeans and mangoes, and went on his way.

One sunny afternoon, Percy’s tummy rumbled like thunder. “Ooooh, bamboo pie would be nice,” he sighed. But when he reached the usual snack grove, he found… nothing. All the bamboo was gone!

All over Bamboo Hollow, animals were grumbling. The food was missing! No berries, no nuts, not even a single juicy leaf.

That’s when Percy remembered an old tunnel he’d once rolled into during one of his clumsy naps. Curious, he bounced back there and slid down the slope. At the bottom, he blinked.

It was a hidden cave full of food!

Stacks of berries, crunchy nuts, shiny apples, bamboo shoots as tall as Percy himself—and even a cheese wheel wearing sunglasses (don’t ask why, it’s a forest mystery).

Percy was overjoyed! But he didn’t eat it all. Instead, he skipped back up and shouted, “Hey everyone! Follow me if you’re hungry!”

The other animals were suspicious. “It’s probably just a trap to make us wear sock hats,” whispered a raccoon.

But their bellies begged them to follow, and so they did.

When they reached the cave, their jaws dropped. “Percy! You found a hidden stash!” cried the owl.

“Wait… you’re sharing it with us?” asked the bunny.

“Of course,” said Percy, handing out bamboo pie slices. “Even if you didn’t like me before, I like you. And everyone deserves to eat.”

From that day on, things changed in Bamboo Hollow. Percy still wore sock ears and sang about jellybeans, but now, everyone sang along.

And if you visit that forest today, you might hear a panda snoring upside-down in a tree—while his friends build a swing nearby.

The End. 🐼
